A message from Carolyn our Christian Aid Rep at St Andrew’s:
Christian Aid Week 2020 starts on Sunday.
Usually, there are teams of collectors across the country delivering envelopes and knocking on doors, not to mention fund-raising events. Last year, the St Andrew’s team raised over £1,800 from collecting in the parish and £8million was collected nationally to support Christian Aid’s vital work with some of the poorest communities in the world.
This year, in lockdown, things are very different. At a time when the need for funds is greater than ever because of the increasing impact of the pandemic on the communities Christians Aid supports, the usual ways of collecting and fund-raising are not possible. In common with so many organisations, Christian Aid Week has therefore gone online.
To quote their website:
“The coronavirus outbreak threatens the health of our neighbours near and far. Together we must respond quickly to help the most vulnerable.
Coronavirus has shown us that our futures are bound more tightly together than ever before.
And now it is spreading across the world’s poorest countries, putting people living in poverty at great risk.
These people are already facing a lack of water, food and healthcare. Some are homeless. Some are living with underlying health issues such as HIV.
As coronavirus infection rates speed up, they will feel the impacts of the virus deeply. We must respond now.
Coronavirus impacts all of us. But love unites us all.”
I have set up a Team called “standrewsandallsaintsmalvern” on the Christian Aid Week 2020 page on JustGiving. You can access it here. If you feel able to make a donation to help the some of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people at this time, please do donate here if you can (we are currently listed at number 49, so you will need to scroll down) – the money will go direct to the Christian Aid Week 2020 Fund. Alternatively, you can donate direct on the Christian Aid website (search Christian Aid Week 2020) or by telephone 020 7523 2269. Anything you can spare will make a difference.
Your prayer support is also invaluable. For prayers in this time of coronavirus see here
You can also sign up to receive daily prayers and reflections from the Christian Aid Week 2020 page of the website.
Thank you and bless you for anything you are able to do to support the work of Christian Aid over the next week.
